What is Mixing?
'Mixing' is the process of turning recorded audio tracks into a finished song, and is a fundamental and necessary part of the recording process. A more accurate name for this step might be 'balancing'.
An ideal situation would leave some time (a day or more) between the recording and the mixing of your work. This creates a little more objectivity and helps to avoid 'listening fatigue'. Ears get tired too! It is not necessary to mix the songs at a later date but it is HIGHLY suggested for improved quality.
Clients sometimes leave a recording session with a CD copy of a "quick mix", which is a like a sketch of the final mix. This "quick mix" enables them to listen to the days work without spending addtional time creating a "final mix".
For mixing, I suggest budgeting a bare minimum of an hour per song.
